Tiny Baby Musk Turtle by theperfectlestat Tiny Baby Musk Turtle by theperfectlestat
This is NOT photoshop. We put a baby turtle in a bottle cap and took a picture. It really IS that tiny!

This little guy is a Facebook celebrity, more or less, and even had an msn article written about him [link] . The smallest turtle ever to be hatched by PNW Turtleworks. S/he is a mini musk turtle, locale of Common or stinkpot musk turtles.

Check out PNW Turtlesworks Facebook for more pictures: [link]

Any my photography Facebook for totally different pictures, most of which haven't made it here yet: [link]

I love Razorbacks! My babies are a bit bigger than that now, but still cute.

Tbh, it looks more like a Mud Turtle than a Stinkpot, however it could just be the position that the picture is in. Very cute little guy!

As I'm sure you know, they look pretty similar. This guy is definitely a stinkpot though. Sometime I'll have to take pictures of the parents. The parents are LTC, and this little guy is captive bred at PNW Turtleworks, hatched this year. She's less than a week old in this photo, if I remember correctly. Maybe 2 or 3 days old. Quite possibly the cutest turtle ever. :)

He looks like a Snapping Turtle. Where I come form, we kill those thing on sight!

Well that sucks. Definitely doesn't look like a snapping turtle though. She'll only get to be maybe 3 inches long for one thing... I can post a picture of a young snapper for comparison on appearances.

If you want, you can go give one a big kiss on the lips, Snapping Turtle that is. They're an aggressive, dangerous animal. They attack live stock and people every year. The only good thing about them: the eat young alligators.

I have plenty of experience with snappers. I own two of them. One is a full grown female. She's huge, and was taken from the wild before ending up in rescue at my place. Definitely not a tame animal. And also not some big scary monster that must be killed on sight.

They do sell them! I'm not sure if they have their export licences though. They're based in the United States.

They're adorable! Main question is, though.... do they stay that small or do they turn out to be huge when adults? Now THAT would be amusing!

This species was specifically chosen to be bred for pets because they stay small. The main problem with most pet turtles you can find in pet stores is that they get to be huge and way too big for most people to keep as pets. These little guys max out at 3 inches, and can spend their whole life in a 20 gallon tank, which is totally manageable for most people.

I'm so glad. I'm sure it can be nerve-wracking to take care of something so small and hoping it makes it to adulthood.

For sure! She belongs to PNW Turtleworks, and I'm their photographer, so at least I don't have to be the one worrying about her every day! They make food the perfect size for such a tiny turtle though, and has been eating like all her sisters. This species is always pretty tiny when they hatch. She's just exceptionally tiny!
